Kusum Shabong
Based in Lower Earley, Berkshire, Kusum began her creative journey ten years ago, driven by a lifelong passion for painting. Her work explores the interplay of light, nature, and man-made structures, celebrating the beauty found at their intersection.
Working primarily in watercolour, she embraces the medium’s fluid unpredictability and luminous transparency. Favouring a loose impressionistic style, her subjects range from organic forms and architectural contrasts to expressive human figures—often infused with bold colours inspired by her Indian heritage. Inspired deeply by nature and the poetry of contrast, she favours transparent washes to evoke emotion and atmosphere. Her process involves deconstructing subjects into layers—gradually building light, form, and feeling.
An active member of local art societies, she remains committed to learning and evolving. She regularly participates in exhibitions, Open Studio events, Art Trails in and around her area. Her work is also available by commission.
