Paola Minekov
I was born in Sofia, into a family of celebrated Bulgarian sculptors, and I left. I needed to find the artist that was truly me. Since then I’ve painted my way across four countries and many cities, before settling in Reading.
My work circles one question: what lies beneath the surface we present to the world. My recent paintings turn to ritual, movement stripped of the performative.
I’m currently working on a collaborative project with artist Natalia Giacomino, The Habit of Becoming: Transform. Repeat. We’re drawn to repetition not as sameness but as the engine of change. A repeated mark is never truly the same; it accumulates time, pressure and memory.
My studio is where that argument between control and instinct plays out, and it’s open on 7–8 November 2026. I’d love to welcome you.
