Susan Thomas

My inspiration comes from normal everyday life and objects that catch my eye. It might be the light, the composition or the sheer fact that something has ended up in an unusual setting that moves me.

I believe in continually challenging my hand to eye coordination so will always have a sketchbook to hand, at the ready to capture a moment in time. I regularly attend organised urban sketching events – a great way to feel part of the wider creative community. Many of these preliminary sketches find themselves in finished pieces.

I help run local life drawing sessions and enjoy challenging myself to really look for the colour, using a variety of mediums in my work, including digital techniques.

Having first etched in the 1990s, I have recently rejuvenated my interest in printmaking. I am enjoying exploring new techniques and discovering how mono-printing enables me to capture more energised and freestyle work.
